Aloha Kindergarten Ohana,
On Friday after the whale watch, we came back to class and found our first butterfly was breaking out of its chrysalis! We let the butterfly go, and are patiently waiting for our second butterfly to mature. In language arts, we are exploring various concepts of our stories through a bookmarking strategy that I discovered in my Masters Program. The children are now illustrating and labeling what they find most interesting, confusing, questioning, and what stands out to them as the main idea. In math, we are finishing up addition and starting to learn about simple subtraction. Today, we even learned how to set up and solve double digit addition i.e. 55+44 = 99! Finally, we are completing our kindergarten mid-year assessments this week, and will be tested on the following skills:
Counting 0-50
Indentifying numbers 0-20 out of order
Writing numbers 0-20 in order
Identifying a penny, nickel, and dime
Identifying all colors and shapes
Producing simple patters (AB, AABB, ABC)
Reading a simple passage with the sight words We and Can
Writing first and last name with proper capitalization and punctuation
Follow three step oral directions
Draw and color a person with four or more colors
