Maui Prep Students Participate in Model UN

Maui Prep students get a taste of international diplomacy through Model UN.
Maui Prep students attended the PacMUN (Pacific Model United Nations) XIII Conference from November 22nd to November 24th on Oahu. Model United Nations (Model UN) programs are enriching extracurricular activities where students simulate the workings of the United Nations. At Model UN conferences, students become virtual delegates for countries around the world faced with an unexpected challenge that they must resolve to the best of their abilities.
Students debate pressing global issues, and draft resolutions to address them. Model UN encourages future lawmakers to think outside the box to craft agreements that promote collaboration on a large scale. “Each nation on the committee had its own focus for the goals of their countries and its people. Being able to work through these solutions benefiting the vast majority of people's interest provided me with so many new effective ways to work with the people around me,” commented Landon Long.
Landon Long, Kai Godwin, Johnnie Holland, Kira Newton, Alyssa Condrey, Anna Nguyen, Madison Goldsmith, Kaia Reader, Kestrel Marshall, and Jennifer Buasert represented Maui Prep at the PacMUN XIII Conference. The group was mentored by Aparna Patrie.
Landon Long won the Outstanding Delegate Award for Disarmament and International Security, after spearheading a mock international resolution to mitigate the cash flow of terror groups while strengthening international credit between developing nations. M
